Day 1_Courtenay

Today Andrew, Kazu, and I set out to tackle the third itinerary. With Michael in tow, we first trekked out to what remains of the English House, the point at which our itinerary diverges from the others. As we began exploring, it quickly became apparent that much of the original road/path was no longer maintained. We spent the day trying to follow as closely as we could, ending up taking paths that were not part of the original itinerary, but still obviously full of valuable information, as well as distant views to the old paths. While the Polish side of the park is certainly less maintained than the German side, I was still struck by how clearly the land has retained shadows of what was once there. Many massive old trees still stand, paths can be read as divots in the ground, and clearings are still readily apparent.
